SAGAR BARNÉS, CAPTAIN OF THE MY BALANDRICH
“Varador 2000 has very good facilities to work, first class” says Sagar Barnés, captain of the yacht Balandrich, who adds: “whenever I come to this shipyard to make a refit, I feel very comfortable, like at home”. Sagar has been visiting Varador 2000 regularly for more than eight years. He has become a regular customer. His last stays have been as captain of the Balandrich, but previously he also did it as head of other vessels such as the Keewaydin or the Jupiter. Over the years Varador 2000 has become your trusted shipyard. This has also allowed him to closely observe the transformation of the shipyard over the last decade. “The truth -says Captain Sagar- is that the evolution of Varador 2000 in recent years is very positive, especially in everything related to planning and monitoring of the work to be carried out on the ship”.
During this period, various works have been carried out and the effects of a previous accident for which Varador 2000 has fully assumed responsibility have been rectified. According to Sagar, “there was a pending guarantee that has been met amicably and with a very good disposition by Varador 2000”. The captain adds that “we are satisfied with the result because everything agreed has been fulfilled”. Sagar -who has been in command of Balandrich for two and a half years- highlights the attitude of the entire technical team and the project manager who has coordinated it, who “has been very attentive at all times supervising all the work carried out”.
Transformation of the front and side skyline
In its two previous stays, each lasting six months, the Balandrich underwent much more complex work. It is worth mentioning the installation of a new visor and sundeck in poop built as it radically changed the old front and side skyline of the boat. The new visor, 4.10 meters wide, integrates completely harmoniously with the lines and aesthetics of the boat. It was manufactured in composites with white painted finishes with the Awlgrip G line system. The visor was embellished with a varnished wooden gift that covers its entire upper perimeter. The action -directed personally by the technical director of Varador 2000, Raül Donaire- was completed with the construction of a new staircase to access the flybridge in stainless steel and teak steps. A new solarium access sliding hatch was also opened.
In parallel to the construction of the new visor, a new anchoring system was also installed that included the following equipment: new anchor shield (HHP Pool N type anchor and 150-meter chain on the starboard side); new hydraulic windlass with double gypsum and cap, and new stainless steel stoppers and anchor retainers. Likewise, a new flush hatch lined in teak was also installed for access to the anchor box. According to Captain Sagar, all these works “transformed the ship, it is clear that it is a project that Varador 2000 carried out with great enthusiasm and with a high level of self-demand, which can be seen in the final, high-quality results”.
Despite being very satisfied with the shipyard’s way of working and with the treatment received, Sagar believes that “delivery times could still be improved”, although he understands that after the initial planning, “that it is very open”, unforeseen difficulties always arise that “end up altering said deadlines”. Now the Balandrich is moored in Mataró Marina Barcelona, “which has become our new base”. Captain Sagar emphasizes that he has chosen this marina, managed by Varador 2000, for three basic reasons: “attention, services and facilities” in addition to “the draft and the mouth”.
The Balandrich is a 23.70 meter long Spanish flag yacht built in 2001 at the Belgian shipyard Jachtwerf Vennekens (Boom port). The hull is built in steel and the superstructure in laminated board, while the design of the boat is the work of the prestigious Dutch naval design firm De Vries Lentsch. The Balandrich is intended for private use only and regularly sails the Mediterranean with a crew of two, including the captain. She has the capacity to accommodate 8 people.
