PREPARED FOR ANY INCIDENT
Fire drill on board the Sirius sailboat with rescue of an injured person by the Generalitat Fire Department.
The drill served to check the operation of the ship’s Safety and Environmental Protection Management System (SGS).
Once the emergency was detected, the navy and ship personnel started the safety protocol with calls to the emergency number 112 and the fire department.
On arriving at Mataró Marina Barcelona, where the Sirius is based, the Generalitat Fire Department managed the emergency and extinguished the fire in the engine room and proceeded with the evacuation of a wounded person. A safety belt has also been deployed around the ship to control any hypothetical contaminant leaks and two water palms have been used to protect other naval facilities close to the vessel.
The firefighters used two heavy pump trucks (which used seawater for extinguishing to protect the installations) and two light coordination and support vehicles. It has also participated as an observer, a provision of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard.
